Community Facilities
Creating healthy and inclusive communities is a key part of planning for Tamworth’s future. Good access to everyday facilities and services helps people live healthier lives, supports local businesses and strengthens community connections.
Planning places where people can safely walk, wheel or cycle to nearby facilities can improve physical and mental health, reduce car journeys, improve air quality and lower carbon emissions. This approach also supports social interaction, helping to build stronger, more resilient communities. The town centre will still be the focus for most shops and services that people travel to use, but people should be able to access everyday needs close to where they live and work.
In this section “Community facilities” means things like local shops, meeting places, sports venues, open space, cultural buildings, pubs and places of worship. “Public service infrastructure” means things like schools, healthcare facilities, social care facilities, and libraries. These definitions are supposed to give an idea of the types of things that might be included, but there may be other things that fit into the categories that have not been included.

Proposed local plan policies
The proposed approach will be reflected in the policies that will be used to assess planning applications relating to community facilities. A summary of each of the policies we think should be in the plan is set out below.
