Housing Delivery
Once we have determined the amount of new homes we need to deliver by 2043, we then have to establish the best approach for delivering them in a sustainable way. The potential options and our proposed approach are set out below.
Summary and proposed approach
The options set out above demonstrate that meeting the housing target for the plan will be a challenge. There is a limited supply of previously developed land inside the borough boundary, and the town’s existing character and historic core make significantly increasing housing density unlikely to be appropriate. Much of the undeveloped land within the borough is also needed for other important reasons such as recreation, nature, and flood resilience, without which further development would not be sustainable.
Our proposed approach is to maximise delivery of new homes within Tamworth on sustainable sites, and continue to work with our neighbours to see if they are able to help us deliver the rest of our housing need. Only once these options have been fully explored will Green Bet sites be considered for housing.
